謝謝捧場!

How big was this, please?

Although it looks like the Rose-myrtle Lappet Moth (Lasiocampidae - Trabala vishnou), as there is no white blotching down the back of the caterpillar, I suspect this is a species of tussock moth (Lymantriidae) from the genus Arctornis.

cheers,  Roger.

Although it's a reduced size image, the 5th instar larva of T.vishnu at http://ccs-hk.org/DM/butterfly/Lasiocampid/Trabala-vishnou.html looks exactly like 穗風's image above.

regards,
David

No dorsal tuft on A2, David, and the head has a complete white collar dorsally, unlike your 5th instar vishnou.

We will have to await this one's hatching, if it's being reared.

cheers,

Roger.

多加一些較具資料價值但較少觀賞價值的相
Some additional photos were added.

thx for the extra photos, 穗風.

Did you retain the larva to rear it through?

From these extra shots, I'm inclined to agree with DM that this is more likely a 5th instar Trabala vishnou.

cheers,  Roger.

No, I did not retain the larva to rear it through. Sorry.

The word "Trabala vishnou" is so difficult that I cannot find the meaning or translation of it.

BTW, hope you all good all days.

The scientific binomial name Trabala vishnou (not "a word", but two words, the first representing the genus and the second representing the species) has the following etymological derivations:

vishnou is taken from the name of a Hindu god.

Trabala might be derived from the Spanish "trabar" which means "interlocking" or "lock together", but I do not know for certain that this is the case. One should refer to the originial species description to see why the species name is given as it is. Spanish (as with other west European languages) is primarily derived from ancient Greek and Latin, so there may well be an older derivation meaning to be found, given enough time. I could not find anything in Latin searches, so try ancient Greek.

cheers,

Roger.
