It is possile that T. emarginata has been recorded in China, however, Thyreus are notoriously difficult to identify, and unfortunately it is very difficult to ascertain the validity of Chinese records in the litterarture. Point in case are the more or less useless issues of Fauna Sinica on Hymenoptera. However, T. emarginata seems to be an invalid synonym of Crocisa emarginata Lepeletier, which is a junior synonym of T. nitidulus, species which is not recorded north of the Philippines. Note that the very well maintained and informed bee page of Discover Life does not mention this species.
In our soon to be published checklist of HK bees, we cite 6 species of Thyreus occuring locally of which T. centrimaculata, material collected locally has been identified by a reputable specialist.
To be noted is that normal photography is useless for ID of Thyreus, and my attempt at naming the above species is in fact an illusion!.
